What we collect

SmoothSkies creates a Firebase guest account with a random user identifier; no name, password or email is required to use the app. Our servers process the airports, flight numbers, departure dates/times and routes you request to provide forecasts and flight searches. Saved server trips, forecast evidence and optional ride reports are associated with your guest identifier. If you enable notifications, we store a device notification token and associated trips. Firebase services process installation, App Check and request information to authenticate the app, prevent abuse and deliver the service. Operational logs may include IP addresses, request diagnostics and requested routes.

Optional feedback

If you submit feedback, we store the rating, optional comment, app version and forecast usage count. If you choose to share a ride report, we store your subjective ride rating, route, departure and linked pre-departure forecast. These reports are used to improve and evaluate the service; they are not measured turbulence. Do not include sensitive personal information in optional comments. A private reflection is separate from submitting a report.

Information kept on your device

Comfort preferences, private reflections, offline briefs, recent searches, favorites and credit usage are stored locally. Saved trips may also sync through your own Apple iCloud key-value store. Imported familiar-voice audio is stored on your device, excluded from backups, and is not uploaded by SmoothSkies. The app does not record your microphone. Device backups may contain other local app data according to your Apple settings. Family mode does not request a child's name or birth date.

Service providers

We use Google Firebase for authentication, hosting, server functions, configuration, storage and notifications; Apple for iCloud, App Attest and push delivery; AeroDataBox via RapidAPI for requested flight information; and Open-Meteo and public aviation-weather sources for weather. The server sends the relevant route, flight/date or weather coordinates to these services to fulfill your request. We do not send your private reflections or voice recordings to these providers.

Optional AI explanations

AI explanations are off by default. If you enable them in Settings, route city names and derived weather/flight-phase summaries may be sent to Ollama Cloud to produce passenger-facing wording. We do not send the guest identifier, your contact information, private reflections, voice recordings or exact departure time to Ollama. Deterministic weather code determines the estimate; AI does not determine flight safety. You can disable AI explanations at any time, and forecasts work without them. Provider processing is governed by its applicable terms and privacy policy.

Retention and deletion

Forecast evidence and history are scheduled to expire 30 days after estimated arrival; ride reports after one year; saved server trips after seven days past departure; and abuse rate-limit records after one day. Automated expiry is asynchronous and may take additional time. Feedback and notification registrations remain until deleted or no longer needed. Shared weather/flight caches contain service data rather than your guest identifier. Operational/security logs and provider backups follow their retention schedules.

Choose Settings > Account & data > Delete guest account and data to request deletion. Account-linked server data and the guest account are removed within 24 hours under normal operation; failed cleanup is retried. Local trips, briefs, reflections and audio are cleared when the request is accepted, and the app clears its iCloud saved-trip mirror. A short-lived deletion marker prevents new requests while deletion completes. A new guest account is created only if you choose Start again. Contact support if deletion has not completed or you need assistance. We cannot directly erase copies already held in your device backups or records providers must retain for security or legal obligations.

Your choices

Notifications and AI explanations are optional. You can delete local reflections, briefs and audio within the companion. You may contact us to request access, correction or deletion of information we can identify as yours. Please do not send passwords, API keys or full travel documents.

Advertising and tracking

SmoothSkies does not sell personal data, display third-party advertisements, or track you across other companies' apps and websites for advertising. Version 1.0 has no purchases or subscriptions.

We may update this policy as the service changes. The date above identifies the current policy.
